Hiring Day | New Year’s Day | Heartbreak Day #ReparationsNow

This video uncovers the hidden truths behind New Year’s Day. Initially, we cover how January 1st is not the new year. Biblically and historically speaking, the New Year begins in the month of Abib, which falls between March and April. We explain how we now use the Gregorian Calendar, which is a reformed version of the Julian Calendar. The month of January and New Year's in particular are based on the pagan god Janus. It is a Roman god who has two faces and looks ahead and behind at the same time. He is also known for accepting wine as an offering. Ironically, New Year's Eve/Day is known for excessive drinking and violence. After presenting these facts, we then cover the slave history of New Year’s Day. To the slaves here in the United States, New Year’s was known as Hiring Day and/or Heartbreak Day. It was full of evil, uncertainty, terror, and sadness. Slaves would be hired out to clear the debts of their respective slave owners. With the hiring out of slaves, the money went to the wealthy slave owners. Sometimes, larger companies would be the hirers (temporary owners), but for the most part, the people who purchased slaves on a temporary basis were the “poor whites” who were not classified as slave owners. I also remind everyone about how slave owners were counted. For the most part, only the heads of households were recorded as slave owners. There were very few exceptions to the rule. We reveal some of the occupations/jobs that hired slaves would do, some of the first-hand and second-hand accounts from hired slaves, and some of the historical documents and evidence proving all of this to be true. We cover how “watch night” is a carryover from these slave times and how so-called New Year’s Day, aka Hiring Day/ Heartbreak Day, should be a reminder of the righteous demands for reparations for Foundational Black Americans.
