Who Owns Hip Hop? Black Music vs. the Industry
Black American music created the sound of modern America—jazz, blues, gospel, funk, soul, R&B, and yes, hip hop. But somewhere between the studio and the boardroom, we lost ownership. In this video, we ask the hard question: Who really owns the music? From exploitation by record labels to the erasure of cultural credit, we break down how the music industry built its empire on Black creativity—and continues to profit while Black artists fight for control. Hip hop is the latest battlefield, but the war has always been bigger.
