There’s a severe crisis in the African American community with long-term consequences: the low reading scores of Black boys. Only 9% of Black male students in public schools read at grade level by eighth grade. That’s a crisis! Black boys deserve much better! Our new initiative, BARS—Black America Reading Strongly, addresses this issue.
